SPEAKER'S ROUNDTABLE FORUM

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung(FES) Ghana Office, since its establishment, has played a key role in Ghana’s development and transition into a democratic state

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung(FES) Ghana Office, since its establishment, has played a key role in Ghana’s development and transition into a democratic state. FES has, over the years, partnered with the parliament of Ghana to strengthen its role. As part of this partnership, the foundation organized the Speaker's Roundtable Forum on 15th November 2021 in Kumasi in collaboration with the Star Ghana Foundation and Parliament of Ghana.

The 8th Parliament has seen a speaker of Parliament elected from the largest opposition party – National Democratic Congress (NDC) - equal members of Parliament (137 each) on the side of government and NDC, and an independent member of Parliament, positions it to be unique in Ghana’s history.Further, the 8th Parliament has generated high expectations on its oversight duties and checks on the executive within Ghana and abroad. Thus, the discussion for Speaker's Breakfast Forum centered on examining Parliament’s oversight function on the governance of public goods and services: prospects and challenges.
