Social Democracy

Ghana is considered a beacon of hope in democratic practice in Africa. This is partly due to Ghana’s electoral democracy since 1992; at least, realising the two-turnover test of democratic consolidation. As a developing country on the verge of attaining a fully-fledged middle-income status, Ghana’s democratic and development project requires an urgent framing of where it is headed in the bid to realizing the public good.

Where it is headed, and how such project is to be implemented is better addressed by the ideological question. As a social democratic political foundation particularly concerned with the ideological question, FES Ghana seeks to provide the platform that interrogates the underlying ideas and ideological presuppositions in the development context. Our party cooperation work and engagement with progressive civil society actors and the media serve as the radar for the ideological discourse, and particularly, the promotion of social democracy.
