Economic Policy Competence Centre

Social justice and sustainable development in Africa are not possible without economic transformation. The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) believes that the creation of decent jobs in the context of an industrialized, green economy is a key foundation for the fight against poverty and the creation of equitable societies.

The Economic Policy Competence Centre (EPCC), based in FES Ghana office, is FES’ regional hub for Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) on economic policy and its related issues. The EPCC seeks to facilitate economic policy work in SSA through various contributions on Industrial Policy and Economic Transformation, International Trade and Labour Market Policies. The activities of the EPCC is largely in the context of an FES-POA project and also draw on the experiences of FES offices which are working in the area of economic policy as well as their partner organisations. Moreover, the EPCC will engage with relevant actors/stakeholders in SSA and possibly Europe within the sphere of economic policy and research to interrogate and dissect issues where necessary.

The EPCC is currently working on policy briefs on the gender effects of COVID-19, the "Employment Creation in Africa - learning from good practices project" and Women in Economics Mentoring Programme. It is also organizing conferences on sustainable employment creation and expert meetings.
