LAUNCH OF THE GHANA ENVIRONMENT MANIFESTO

Launch of Ghana’s Environment Manifesto: A Call to Action

On March 26, 2024, the FES-EPCC supported the launch of the Ghana Environment Manifesto (https://ghana.arocha.org/en/2024/03/22/ghana-environment-manifesto-2024/), a significant milestone by the Environment Civil Society Organisations in Ghana under the Green Livelihood Alliance.

The manifesto outlines key challenges, including poor land management, water and air pollution, climate change, and biodiversity loss, while proposing actionable solutions to address these pressing issues from the perspectives of Civil Society Organisations, communities and vulnerable groups across Ghana.

The launch of the Ghana Environment Manifesto is a significant milestone, marking a turning point in the nation's environmental journey. It serves as a beacon of hope, inspiring stakeholders to envision and work towards a greener, more resilient future. As Ghana forges ahead, the manifesto stands as a robust roadmap, guiding us all towards a shared commitment to safeguarding the nation's natural heritage for generations to come.

The launch was a testament to the commitment of participants from various political parties in Ghana, academia, policymakers, and activists. They not only attended but also pledged their unwavering commitments to the implementation of the Environment Manifesto, reinforcing the importance and urgency of the cause.

Some Policy recommendations:

  • Use of the progressive manifesto as a guideline to ensure environmental quality
  • Collaboration and dialogue between all stakeholders and thinking along vulnerabilities is a priority
  • Political parties must prioritize environmental sustainability in their policies and commit to implementing the   Environment Manifesto
  • Attract global investment to address climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental pollution while improving economic outcomes
  • Need for a comprehensive approach which integrates science, policy, business and civil society
