FES-NCCE STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENTS ON DIGITAL DEMOCRACY

Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Ghana Office, together with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), held stakeholder engagements on digital democracy in the Eastern and Central regions of Ghana, 6th - 8th May and 24th – 26th June 2026 respectively. The stakeholder engagements were held under the theme: Enhancing Youth Civic Participation in Constitutional Governance through Digital Platforms. The objective was to promote the integration of digital platforms into Civic Education for inclusive participation in Ghana’s democracy.

Key Highlights from the engagement

• The integration of digital platforms into civic education delivery provides an innovative and sustainable pathway for strengthening youth participation in constitutional governance.
• Democratic systems are intrinsically complex, and to counter informal justice and vigilantism, youth must be trained to solve community issues through legitimate digital tools
• Digital civic engagement will help prepare the youth to become responsible digital citizens who can identify misinformation, engage meaningfully online, and use technology to positively contribute to good governance
• Digital civic education is an important tool for strengthening constitutional governance and active citizenship in Ghana
• To effectively participate in national development discourse, there is a need for high-level civic education, including civic skills acquisition (Participatory and Cognitive), civic knowledge and civic disposition.
